Tax Breaks and Energy Credits

Are there any tax credits for my home project if I live in Georgia?

Yes!!

In fact, if you plan it out well then not only can you dramatically increase the comfort and energy efficiency of your home but you could get up to  $2500 in credits and an additional $700 each year following from the IRS Energy Star and the Georgia Power: Total Home Improvement "Whole House" Program(s).

We do not make any claims toward being tax professionals, but from the research we've done we assure you that these programs are real. The following two links are really all you need to get started:

Energy Star:

While the Energy Star Tax Credits are based on materials purchased which wear/have earned their seal of approval, the Georgia Power Total Home "Whole House" Credits are based on evaluations done before and after installation of home improvements. These evaluations are obtained by 3rd party HERS certified professionals (Georgia Power additionally seems to have a list of their own certified contractors who evaluate your home which they offer a $225 rebate when you use their evaluators). These "contractors" make recommendations for improvements that you can make to increase the energy score of your home. That's where we come in to make the repairs, install the energy star equipment and so on. The HERS Indicator test that GP uses would require upgrades to multiple areas like air ducts, HVAC, energy efficient doors and windows. These evaluations do cost money. I spoke with one HERS certified professional who explained that the cost was $400 for the first HVAC unit and then you could add $100 per each additional unit.
